Nigerian nanny sentenced to 80 years in prison in the US

Nigerian/American woman, Jessica Tata, 24, was sentenced to 80 years in prison on Monday, November 20 after being found guilty of the death of one of four children, 16-month-old Elias Castillo.

Appeals for leniency failed to move a Texas judge who delivered a harsh sentence of 80 years behind bars for Tata, convicted in the death of a child killed in a fire at her home day care in Houston, Texas. The deceased child succumbed to a fire ignited when Tata went shopping and left a pan of oil cooking on the stove.

Tata still faces three more counts of felony murder in relation to the other children who died, and three counts of abandoning a child and two counts of reckless injury to a child in relation to three who were hurt. So she will be getting more years added to the 80.
